homework for october 7

i guess over the years i have obtained a few learning styles. i learn best when i am involved in the the process,i guess perhaps some hands on learning,i guess what i actually mean is that doing some actual mock business plans may be benifical.there are so many different ways to learn in todays society, i mean with the advancement of todays technologies the way we learn is always being stepped up and new laernings can actually being meaningful. So with computers and actually being able to see things be done i would say i amquite the visual learner this class i belive i will learn some basic concepts to entrepuership, and also learn what some of our native brothers and sisters are trying to to for themselves and their people. i think the only thing i can commit and contribute to the class is my ability to learn new things. what i want to learn from this class is how i may start my business plan and to make it very effective. i think at least everyone i know had a dream of running thier own business and being finacially secure. it wasnt until about 4 years ago, that i had decided that i really want to run my own business, and create a few jobs for the right qualified native people. Thats probably why i decided to take this program so that when the time is right i will have the knowledge of knowing how to run a small business that has success and that would have the potential to grow and create more jobs within my community. you know people say how great a community is for economic development but its the people who make a process work effectivly, and thats what makes a difference. and what i see in my community is that the administraters dont follow a process, well they do but a process that doesnt give us a fair share or the right to have a say in what is good for our community, and then you have the corruption part of it,the ones who are gready. when will this all stop and people start seeing the good in being prosperus not just as singles but as on nation.

assignment for September 30, 2008

last class was pretty interesting as we were talking about non native people selling indian culture. I honestly believe in my heart that the selling of culture is wrong in many ways especailly is your not of native origins. In todays global business world we see that people will do just about anything for prosparity, even if it means lying about where ideas come from or saying they have been in sacred ceromonies but just make up ceromonies that do not exist. i dont think it right but from a a business point of view i guess if it sells then why not! the pros is that native people could live like that and the con is that do we as native people get offended when peopledo this as to this being a good business if i were a businessman i would have to say that this is good because it sells and makes money,i guess it could be considered innovative depending on who it is viewed, and i guess the process seems fine.

Powwow Time

this weekend is our annual powwow, and boy am i ever excited. our powwow features atlantic canadas first nation drum groups and dancers. i am safe to say that we indeed have the largest powwow in the region, and its tradional too. we have a feast of traditional maliseet cusine which features salmon, fiddleheads, moose,deer, muskrat, and of course lagugee mmm mmm mmm my favorite. this year we will be featuring a drum gruop from ontario called the Chipuwa travellers, they seem to be a world class group and i look forward to hearing them sing and our drum group blowing them away, hahahha. well every one is invited to attend it starts 1pm sharp on sturday and sunday. dont be late because you will miss the beutiful grand entry, the favorite and most beutiful part of powwow tradition and values. hope to see you all there.

the Apology

yesterday's apology by Canada's Prime Minister on behalf of the entire country seems to be all i am hearing about on the rez and in my place of work. all these years that have gone by and the leaders of this country that have come and gone, but why Harper? whats he up to is my question. the issue that bothers me is why didnt he admit to genoicde? well for one, if that was to happen it would go agianst the poloicies of the UN and we would consider it to be war crimes or crimes against humanity. indded this was a time of genoicide, and alot of people do not realize that these things were still happening during the times that many of todays seniors were just young. for instance. the last residential school closed in the late 60's. our people were treated like shit and expect us to act like civilized human beings. even thought some of my generation did not have to witness such a horrific time in history, we still feel the affects of what happened. just like an aftershock from an earthquake. this is a time of healing and it is up to us as indian people to come together and see what can be done, even though we are different nations because of our tribes we belong to, it is time that we come togther as one nation and stand united. remember the canadian national anthem and what they sing. "our home on NATIVE land.

What a month this is going to be, i mean with the elections going on and the gossip that comes with it. I am almost certian everyone in class knows what i mean. As i sit here, i think about the ways our ancestors did things in their times, what it was like for them to choose thier leaders, and did they argue and put one another down? This boggles my mind because as native people our ancestors would be so disrespected by the way we conduct ourselves through these critical times. for instance, the way in which our chief and council are elected today is totally different then it was in the days our ancestors occupied this land. the way the people brought in a new cheif and council was up to the elders in the community, they made the decision, and do you think the people complained and fought with each other over the decisions that were made? In my opinion, i would definetly have to say that there may have been disagreements, although, they were disagreements between the elders, and the people did not know or did not hear about them at all. Chiefs were choosen based on what they did as a they grew from a child to a man, whether it was being a good hunter to being a strong warrior, things were done on merit, another words you had to earn your feathers by by being respectful, diligent, and honourable in the societies that have since past. what if it was like that today? would things be different? would people veiw our time of elections as one big party, or would it be viewed as a time in which we evaluate based on deeds or merit? it is hard to say because over time these values seemed to disintergrate before our eyes or as the generations passed. this is the time of elections, and what a month this is going to be.

they say we are supposed to be writing about english class, but what exactly are we supposed to write about ha maybe the comma, period, semi colon, lol maybe some critical thinking? hmmmmmmmmmmm that just boggles my mind

english!!!! i AIN'T good at that

well its english time folks. pack your bags and prepare to be proper!!!!! it has been a while since i had english class. the class seems to be pretty good, lots of discussion and interaction between all the reservations included, at least there AIN'T no exams!!!!

aww it feel good to be feeling a lot better. i have been sick now for almost 3 weeks and i have no idea what to do for my presentation on. it is nerve racking hahaha.

new businesses

i was on my way home from work yesterday and was listening to the news on the radio and heard that in St John they are opening a new business in customer care and that they were going to hire as many as 100 + employees and around 60-70 new empoyees to work from home. this is kinda great because for stay at home mom or for people who are handicapp they have oppurtunities to make an income from home. i decided to blog about this because it ties into what we were talking about and what we had did our response papers on in ed3862 last term. pretty cool to see things actually happening in poor ol New Brunswick!!! hopefully in the future there may be something here in the capital city for people to work from home. people should junp on the band wagon and take advantage of these great things that technology has to offer. who knows in the future this may be the new work force because you save all kinds of money for instance power bills, rent, and workers comp, hahaha just kidding. but we never know whats the new wprkplace will be like.

technology tool

last night in my business technolgy class we had the great oppurtunity of using one of the many teaching resources that todays 21st century allows us to access. we had a teacher from the states who is currently living in Shanghi, China. is was unreal to me because it was the first time i had the oppurtunity to actually witness this great tool. it was about 7 pm here in fredericton and about 7 am in China. he was just giving us a brief over view of what this tool had to offer and how its great for todays schools to use. this tool though, not only used for teaching but could be used for many business in todays global society. which is kinda cool because that means if people want to give marketing statagies or present business ideas or just about anything then they may not have to jump on a plane and spend money or waste time if things do not work out. ya so, this is a great tool that everyone may benifit from.

new class

well it seems like the first class is finally over, it seems as though it took forever because of all the snow storms that we had. this new class seems to be really exciting and more interesting then the first one, i am really excited to learn about web 2.0 and what it has to offer. i hope everyone is going to enjoy this as much as i am!!!!!!!!!!!!!

do people actually get away with piracy

i was home sick yesterday and happened to be watching Judge Joe Brown and this particular case had caught my attention because it kinda ties in to what we were talking about in class. there was this 62 year old man who had purchased a laptop computer from this company, he had the laptop for about 6 months and it had crashed. so he took the PC back to the place where he had bought it. the man who sold it was an independent distrubuter for Dell. the man who bought the PC from the Dell distributor had lost the CD to recover his program.anyway the distributor had placed a pirated copy of windows XP on the laptop. the man started using his PC and soon came to find that he couldn't receive updates on his XP. the case goes on and the man was suing for $3700 for lost pictures and a faulty PC. the judge was in favor of the man who bought the PC but gave his ruling of $40 because the man should have backed up his pictures and apparently the man who put the pirated package on the PC was in the correct place according to the judge. the ruling of 40 bucks came from the cost for the company labour to fix the problem in which they had to refund the labour costs. so what i am asking i guess is it right to have pirated programs on your PC and doesn't this set precedents in the USA where this case took place???????

school computers can harm learning in early grades

i was reading a article on the Canada east website that states that allowing kids to spend time with school computers can harm thier education at an early age, it states that during the time that students are on the pc that this could be valuable time to be delivering more literacy skills and interacting with the teacher. the article goes on to say that its just common sense that a lot of teaching time is being lost. does anyone agree with this. i mean to an certain extent there could could be time lost but i believe that if your using computers as a teaching tool that this could be a valuable learning experience for both student and teacher. it goes on to say that kids are using computers for entertainment and comminications, but if kids are taught to use them for education while in school at a young age that they can learn alot. they need to address this issue because i think that todays student would really be at a disadvantage if thier were no computers in school. everyone has thier own opinions about this topic. whats yours??? here is the link to the article. feel free to respond!!!! http://www.canadaeast.com/news/article/222913

dazed and confused

today is february 19, 08 and i am pretty upset with the way technolgy is treating me these past few days. it seems as though i cannot send off my response paper to my prof. why i have no idea, but it is really bugging me because i cant do anything about because i am at work and the assignment is saved on my pc at home. hopefully by tonight this will be staightend out. any one hear of any new technologies that they have seen or tried in the past few days????

too bad

today is thursdasy february 14, valentines day. it was too bad class was cancelled last night i was really looking forward to the guest speaker that was coming in. hopefully he will reschedule for a later date.

the assignment

Today is February 6, and i am still curious as to what the business response assignment will be, i hope i dont have to wait until last minute to do this assignment.

well today is Tuesday Feb. 5, and i am very excited to be part of this great learning experience. It has been about six years since i have done any schooling, i do know a little about computers and how they operate, although i could use a good refresher!!!!!
